Please join us on Saturday, October 1st for our fourth Field to Fork Dinner where diners experience a magical meal under the stars in the field at St. Brigid’s Farm.  During cocktails, guests can listen to music by local musicians, savor delicious Chapel’s Creamery cheeses, tour the farm and watch afternoon milking.

Our menu will remind you of Sunday dinner in your grandmother’s kitchen.  For starters you will be served a bowl of Sweet Cream of Tomato Soup made from vine ripe tomatoes and rich Jersey milk.  Next we will offer a mixed salad of fresh greens and watermelon radishes topped with balsamic vinaigrette.  Savory meatloaf made with St. Brigid’s Farm’s grass fed ground beef and gravy will headline the main course accompanied by mashed potatoes and green beans.  Guests will have to be careful not to fill up on fresh crusty bread from Chestertown bakery, Against the Grain, in order to save room for dessert of Apple Pie ala mode with homemade ice cream. During dinner, the farmers who grew the food and made the cheese will talk about their farms.

We are thrilled that this year’s recipient of all proceeds from our Field to Fork Dinner is the Echo Hill Outdoor School’s Summer Explore Program.  Funds will help provide deserving Kent County public school children with scholarships to attend a Summer Explore trip. All scholarship recipients are children of outstanding character who are nominated by their teachers and members of their communities.

Echo Hill Outdoor School provides students with positive experiences in the outdoors where students learn about the wonders of nature, the value of history, and the diversity of individual qualities.  In the summer months, the Outdoor School offers exciting three, four, and five-day Explore Programs on the waters of the upper Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

During three day camping trips the first or second-time campers explore the Kent shore of the Sassafras River and use the same campsite each night.  On the longer canoe trips, campers travel the middle section of the Chester River and explore undisturbed marshes, sandy beaches, fields, and woodlands.  Making and breaking camp, helping to cook and prepare meals, and canoeing are all major parts of every canoe trip, and along the way there is plenty of time for relaxing, fishing and swimming.

Buy boat trips are five days long and take place aboard the 50’ Chesapeake Bay oyster boat, Annie D.  Campers, the captain and crew roam the entire Chester River. The bateau “Ric”, a 22’ skiff, is towed behind to allow for extensive exploration anywhere along the way. The explorers have the ability to crab, fish, swim and study all parts of the ecosystem at anytime.

Skipjack trips are also five days and take place aboard the School’s Chesapeake Bay Skipjack, Elsworth.  Sailing and running the Elsworth is a team effort that requires involvement from everyone on board. Learning some basic sailing and navigational skills are a part of every trip. Every sailor has an opportunity to contribute.

Although most of us are too old to be campers, we can give deserving Kent County students the chance to learn about the wonders of nature while enjoying a feast of local bounty.  What a deal!!  To reserve a spot, send an e-mail to rcfry@stbrigidsfarm.com.  Dinner is $100 per person.

Sincerely, Robert Fry & Judy Gifford

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
